Museums Natural History Museums offer rich resources for anyone interested in mineralogy. Through the years, many members of the Mineralogical Society of the District of Columbia have served as docents or as behind-the-scenes volunteers at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (where we hold our monthly meetings). Members who have been docents or volunteers report that those experiences added tremendously to their personal knowledge and gave them the chance to share their enthusiasm for the natural world with visitors to the museum.
