INTERESTED IN JOINING MSDC?

The Mineralogical Society of the District of Columbia welcomes people to join us in learning about and appreciating the complexity and beauty of rocks, minerals and gems.

We will help further your curiosity about the world under your feet. If you would like to know more about the earth’s 4,000-plus known minerals and the geological processes through which the earth gave birth to them, contact us.

Founded in 1942, MSDC is the oldest mineral club in the Washington, DC area. We meet monthly at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, on the national Mall in Washington, DC. Most meetings include a slide-lecture, often by internationally recognized experts. Topics can cover a wide range – studying volcanoes, exploring caves, mining rubies, collecting Australian opals, understanding the geological forces which have created such diverse minerals, and much, much more.

Members range from total novices to true experts. Come to one of our monthly meetings to learn more about the fascinating world of minerals and the geological forces which bring about such beautiful structures from tiny crystals to majestic mountains.

HOW MUCH? MSDC is a non-profit educational organization and the modest dues reflect this. For 2005, our yearly dues for an individual are $18.00 and $23.00 for couples.
MSDC membership takes people beyond collecting minerals and opens minds to the larger worlds of understanding the geological forces which bring these natural marvels into existence in the first place.
