INTERESTED IN FIELD TRIPS?

One of the fascinating aspects of membership in a mineralogical, gem or lapidary club is having knowledgeable guides to collecting sites. Sometimes we visit quarries, little known road cuts as well as other public lands. Some of our members cross the country, stake claims and search for rare and beautiful mineral crystals. When permission is available, we may also visit private properties, always respectful of the environment and the rights of others.

MSDC, because of our close working relationship with the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, occasionally offers ‘behind the scenes’ visits to the Museum’s mineral collection.

COLLABORATION WITH OTHER MINERAL CLUBS
What makes these trips possible is the close cooperation of a number of clubs in the greater Washington, DC area. There is a spirit of ‘sharing the wealth’ which includes not only learning about minerals but also collecting mineral specimens as well as fossils.

MSDC encourages you to find a club or clubs which support your interests. By joining one of our local affiliated clubs, you will learn about and have access to many of the other clubs’ programs and field trips.
